Valerie views painting as a form of meditation, where she immerses herself in the creative process and, at times, this leads to pleasant surprises. Once, while finishing a painting, she was delighted to see the mischievous expression and glint in the eyes of her sister looking back at her from the portrait.
She’s always been fascinated by and enjoys doing pencil sketches of people’s faces but when her son moved out and left behind a set of watercolours, she began experimenting with colour. Although primarily self-taught, she’s attended several workshops sponsored by the GNAAA. Several of her watercolours have been accepted at GNAAA’s annual juried art exhibition and she has displayed and sold paintings at various Napanee locations.
Valerie and her husband have called Napanee home since 2008. Born and raised in Sudbury, Valerie lived in Calgary for several years and returned to Ontario in 1984. Retirement allows her the time and freedom to indulge her passions.
