Inspired by the beauty found in nature, Doris began painting landscapes in acrylics but very soon changed to watercolour. She is mostly self-taught but has taken some workshops; in particular, she was privileged to learn from Jack Reid. Her subjects are mainly landscapes, florals, wildlife and birds.
She was a member of Visual Arts Brampton (VAB) for many years and was fortunate to have been accepted into four consecutive juried shows hosted by VAB during that time.
Doris laid aside her painting for many years until becoming a member of Creative Brushes in Kingston in 2018. With her move to Bath in 2021, her creative journey continued and she was accepted into the Lakeside Studio Gallery for two years. For two years, 2023 & 2024, Doris was also accepted into the Visual Artists of Gananoque and Area (VAGA) Co-op Gallery. In summer 2023, she completed a painting course; Landscapes in Oil for Beginners, at the Kingston School of Art with one of her completed oil paintings being accepted in their juried show. To date she has been accepted into seven consecutive juried shows.
She is currently a member of Bath Artisans; Greater Napanee Area Artists Association (GNAAA); and Rideau Lakes Artists Association (RLAA). Doris is also a photographer and gardener and has worked part-time as a travel agent, designing and leading tours for small groups of women; in particular, garden and art tours.
Her paintings are in private collections in Canada, the UK, United States and Japan.
