Julie Stephens
My name is Julie Stephens, and I live in Bath, Ontario with my husband and two golden retrievers. Art has always been a passion of mine, especially drawing animals in pencil. I’m drawn to the simplicity of graphite; it allows me to focus on fine details like the texture of fur, the softness in their eyes, and the subtle expressions that make each animal unique.
I find inspiration in quiet moments—watching my own pets, spending time in nature, and observing the deep bond people share with their animals. I often ask for each pet’s name when I do memorial portraits and even talk to them as I draw, which helps me connect more deeply to their personality and spirit.
Although I was diagnosed with arthritis at a young age, and it continues to shape what I can do, I remain committed to my art and find ways to keep creating despite the challenges. Living with arthritis has also deepened my patience and perspective, shaping not only how I create, but why I create.
